You look familiar

The 2009 MLB Playoffs official start in just about one hour.  I cannot wait to be glued to my television for the rest of the night (well except for that hour class tonight, BOO!).  I would love to be getting ready to watch my Cleveland Indians in the ALDS, but I obviously do not get that privilege.  However, there are quite a few former Indians in this years playoffs.

Cliff Lee will be pitching Game 1 for the Phillies tonight, and CC Sabathia is on the hill for the Yankees.  Every-time I watch these guys pitch it just feels weird. In a perfect world they would be starting Game 1 & 2 for Cleveland in this years playoffs.

What really seems strange to me is how I feel about both of these players.  I continue to pull for Lee and wish him the best.  CC is a different story.  My sick mind hopes that he chokes in the playoffs.  There are obvious reason for this.  Lee has been on my fantasy team the last two years.  Lee also plays on a Philadelphia team that I like.  I have always liked Utley and Rollins.  CC went to the Yankees.  He did not pitch very well in big games when Cleveland needed him to.

So as I go into today’s games, I will be rooting for a great game from Lee and a poor performance from CC.  I want to know how you feel about the players we traded away.  Do you want them to succeed? Or flop? Or is it case by case like my example?

80s weekend

This past weekend at Progressive Field was 80s weekend.  I missed the first few games because of my road trip, but I was able to make it back in time for Sunday night’s game. I also went to the Monday night game.  The ended up being complete opposites.  I have never seen two games that were so different.

Sunday night was one of the best pitched games I have ever seen.  I was hoping for just that when I found out the pitching match up was going to be Lee and Carpenter. They did not disappoint.  Carpenter made only a few mistakes and the Indians were able to capitalize.  He allowed 3 runs over 7 innings, striking out 3 and only giving up 5 hits.  His pitch total was only 89. For as good as Carpenter was, Lee was even better.  He walked the first batter of the game on 4 pitches.  Later that same inning he walked Pujols.  However, after that, the Cardinals had no threat until the 9th.  Not only was Lee good, he was great.  He had no hit stuff.  He carried is no-no into the 8th when Molina lead the inning off with a double.  I really thought he was going to do it.  Guys just were not hitting the ball hard off him all night.  Lee finished the game only allowing 3 hits.  He struck out 6 and only walked 2.  Cliff was truly dominate Sunday night.

Monday night was quite the opposite.  I dont really want to say much.  We lost 14-12 to the Brewers, and were up 12-8 in the 8th.  Bad pitching on both sides.  Lots of homeruns and a Rick Vaughn Bobblehead were the only highlights. Perez has some major issues and cannot be counted on out of the pen.

Thanks for the help boys

Cliff Lee has pitched much better than his 3-6 record would indicate.  The team has struggled to put runs on the board when he pitches.  However, last night, Lee got a lot more than he needed. The Tribe put a 10 spot up against the Twins in a game in which Lee gave up only one run in 8 strong innings of work. The run support was out of the ordinary for Lee but I am sure he welcomes it with open arms.  Before last night, Lee had gotten 26 runs in 11 starts, and that includes 10 runs against the Yankees in his 3rd start this season.  After the game last night, Lee’s ERA is down under 3 to 2.96.  That comes after a rocky start in which he gave up 7 and 4 in his first two starts, respectively.  If you throw those games out, his ERA over his last 10 starts is 2.00.  I

f you look at his record, he appears to be struggling.  But the other numbers tell the story.  In his first two losses, he pitched poorly.  However after that its been a different story.  His third loss was a game in which he pitched 8 innings, allowed 2 runs, and the offense was shut out.  He then pitched 7 innings allowing 3 runs, but only got 1 run in support.  Next, he pitched 8 innings allowing 1 run and lost because the offense was shut out again. His sixth loss was a game where he pitched 6 innings, allowed 3 runs, but again got 1 run in support.  Lee also has no decisions in games where he pitched 8 innings allowing 3 runs, and 8 innings allowing 0 runs.
